Taiwan stocks ended 1.37 percent higher on Thursday at a five-month closing high, topped by LCD makers and computer counters, while HTC Corp was limit-up for the second consecutive session as foreign investors bought up its previously underperforming shares. Yuanta Securities analyst Bonnie Chang said the surge in HTC shares was a catch-up to gains in the benchmark TAIEX.
The TAIEX rose 103.25 points to 7,652.46, the highest close since early September, after opening up 0.86 percent. The optoelectronics sub-index jumped 4.87 percent, while computer makers gained 3.64 percent. Banking shares were up 1.23 percent.
