District Coordina-tion Officer Lahore Ahad Khan Cheema has directed the concerned officers to pay special attention to vector surveillance for effective control of dengue. He further said that in accordance with the action plan, all necessary arrangements should be made to check the outbreak of dengue virus in Lahore.
According to an official, the DCO Lahore further directed them to submit a report within 72 hours after going through the record of dengue patients at union council (UC) level, so that most vulnerable UCs could be focused. He said due to the cold weather and very low temperature, dengue larva was not found in the samples collected from different parks and open areas up till now. "At present, spray and fogging for dengue control is not necessary, as the weather is very cold and there is no evidence of dengue larva in open places," he added. He also directed that maintenance and repair work of fogging machines and spray pumps should immediately be undertaken and all these machines be kept ready to avoid any difficulty in the coming season. He further directed that availability of spray pumps, foggers along with chemicals should be ensured according to the requirements. He said arrangements for vector surveillance and dengue control must be ensured in all union councils.
Meanwhile, the DCO Lahore ordered the TMA Wahga Town for the timely completion of Darogha Wala Band Road. He said he would himself monitor all the development schemes of the TMA. "Construction and repair of all the roads of TMA, especially of Darogha Wala Band Road, must be completed in a stipulated time," he added.
He said there would be no compromise on the provision of basic facilities to the masses, therefore the pace of work of development schemes must be accelerated. "Standardisation and approved estimation of the development works must be ensured and if any work is found substandard, stern action would be taken against the concerned officers and contractors," he added.
