Pakistan currently faces significant challenges - strive for establishing the rule of law standing out as the quintessential one. At this important juncture, LUMS strives to provide an avenue for invoking uninhibited thought, dialogue and debate - the kind of discourse which gives rise to visionary leadership, which in turn shall give rise to a nation that is stronger, progressive and democratic.
It was with these ideals deeply embedded in our hearts and minds that we successfully conducted the first ever LUMS All Pakistan Moot Court Competition in November, 2009, then a Second Moot Court Competition in 2011 and now the Third National Moot Court Competition in 2012.
Aspiring to build upon last year's success, the Department of Law and Policy at LUMS has selected a pressing issue for this year's Moot Court Competition and the topic this year is the legality of attacks on a country's soil and sovereignty. The world is moving towards globalisation and in such times it is important we reflect upon what international law and international humanitarian law asks of us. The recent events have attracted many debates and discussions all over the Pakistan. LUMS being one of the leading institutes of Pakistan has decided to address the issue by way of a Moot Court Competition. Teams from all over the Pakistan, namely University Law College Quetta, Gilani Law College BZU Multan, SZABIST Karachi, International Islamic University Islamabad, University Law College Gujrat, Punjab Law College Lahore, and Pakistan College of Law, Lahore, participated in this year's event which saw a remarkable display of legal prowess and academic research skills.-PR
