The National Assembly Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday agreed to proposed amendments to Provincial Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1956 made by the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration. Under the proposed amendment fines on certain traffic violations would be increased.
The committee also declared use of hand-held mobile phone, unfastened seat belt, smoking, screening of LCD, use of tinted glasses, riding bicycle in a fast lane and pedestrians' crossing highways from prohibited points as traffic violations in the ICT limits.
The meeting was held with MNA Abdul Qadir Patel in the chair at the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) Headquarters attended by Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, Shikh Waqqas Akram, Tanzeela Aamir Cheema, Bushra Gohar and senior officials.
Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Tariq Mahmood Pirzada informed the committee that during the last month, out of 116 people killed on Islamabad roads, 57 percent were pedestrians. The committee also constituted a sub-committee to further examine the draft bill and to finalize it because of reservations of some members.
The committee also discussed the "The Nadra (Amendment) Bill, 2012 moved by MNA Azra Fazal Pechuho and constituted a sub-committee to further discuss it. The proposed bill sought addition of 'guardian' column in the national identity card so as to resolve the issue of registration of children without known parentage.
The meeting also constituted two separate sub-committees to examine "The Passports (Amendment) Bill, 2012 also moved by Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and discuss the procedure of recording more than one weapon into the new computerised arms license. The meeting also discussed the display of weapons by the banned organisation and constituted a sub committee in this regard.
