Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan was achieved after innumerable sacrifices under the dynamic leadership of Quaid-e-Azam so that Muslims of the subcontinent could lead their lives with honour and dignity and have avail opportunities of progress. But despite a passage of 64 years, these objectives have not been achieved.
Although freedom was achieved from Hindu imperialism, yet economic and political independence is still a far cry, he added. There is a need to adopt the virtues of honesty, hard work and commitment to put the country on the road to progress and development.
The CM was addressing the inaugural session of fourth three-day 'Nazria-e-Pakistan' Conference arranged by Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust at Awan-e-Karkunan-e-Tehrik-e-Pakistan, here Thursday. Shahbaz said that through practical efforts and following the spirit of 'Misaq-e-Madina' and not hollow slogans, the destiny of the country could be changed while the slogan of 'Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan' can also be translated into reality. He noted that Pakistani nation is highly talented and capable of changing the course of history. He furthered that corruption and obsolete system will have to be eliminated while tough decisions will have to be made for ensuring a dignified status of Pakistan among the comity of nations.
He said Muslims of the subcontinent struggled for the creation of such an Islamic welfare state where they could live honourably under a system of social and economic equality. However, despite a passage of 64 years, a society envisioned by Allama Iqbal and Quaid-e-Azam has not been materialised. He lamented that loot and nepotism are rampant, judicial decisions are being ridiculed and the country is plunging into the darkness of corruption. He added that energy crisis has pushed the country to the verge of disaster while national economy has been ruined.
Shahbaz said it is high time to take tough decisions while every member of the society will have to play his due role for the elimination of corruption. He said that in order to give a practical shape to the slogan of 'Kashmir Bane Ga Pakistan,' practical measures will have to be taken with sincerity and integrity of character instead of mere lip service and sloganeering.
He pointed out it is first time in national history that Punjab government has renounced such assistance of 'aghyaar', which could undermine national sovereignty and independence. He reiterated that every sacrifice will be made for the honour and dignity of the country. He said aid 'immersed in the blood of Pakistanis is a blotch in the face of the nation', therefore, it has been decided to reject such assistance in accordance with the demands of national conscience and aspirations of the masses.
The CM highlighted, "The West has achieved prosperity by adopting Misaq-e-Madina while we are facing downfall by disregarding the message of the Holy Prophet (SAW) given 1,400 years ago". He said the allies destroyed Germany but despite strong opposition, East and West Germany have again unified.
