Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) have appeared ineffective to nab any notorious gangster, despite displaying massive show of force during search operation in Lyari. Heavy contingent of police and rangers took part in the pre-informed targeted search operation, which seemed to be just power demonstration but nothing.
According to sources and eye-witnesses, at around 5am, heavy contingents of rangers, female personnel, commandos and police had initiated search operations at Shah Abdul Latif Bhattai road, Hangorabad, Juma Baloch road, Ghousia road, Juna Masjid road, Dubai Chowk, Aath Chowk, Phool Pati Lane, Agra Taj, Bihar Colony, Al-Falah road, Ahmad Shah Bukhari road, Gul Muhammad Bhoja street, Baba Para, Sir Gawad Mohallah, Katchi Para and others but faced strong resistance from the inhabitants, who took on streets and expressed resentments against the searches. The protesters, who burnt tyres and shouted slogans against law enforcers, alleged them to protect the wrongdoers as what the protesters claimed that the LEAs have kicked off pre-informed search operations just to provide safe passage to the notorious criminals for escape.
They said "at one side, our beloved ones are being killed in the city, however, on the other hand, the LEAs instead of arresting wrongdoers, nabbed innocent during search operations. They said these operations are not bringing peace in the city but creating problems for innocent citizens as they were detained and interrogated besides their families were also forced to pay handsome amount to the law enforcers for their release. Later, the law enforcers have used rubber bullets and teargas shells to disperse the protesters.
Resultantly, six persons namely Halima, 39, wife of Abdul Karim, Sakeena, 50, wife of Umer, Hussain, 30, son of Issa, Nagahi, 65, wife of Hussain, Haji Muhammad, 40, son of Faqeer Muhammad and Younus, 25, son of Abdul Sattar sustained rubber bullet wounds while one Syed Rahim Shah got injured in a stampede during search at Agra Taj colony.
The eye-witnesses said the law enforcers have besieged these areas and started house to house search initially from Shah Abdul Latif Bhattai road late Thursday and later extended the same to other aforesaid parts of Lyari. They said the LEAs had detained some 25 persons, who were transported to unidentified place for interrogation. Meanwhile, the rangers confirmed to have detained three suspects with 50 pieces of weapons during search. Sources said the suspects were identified as Sajid, Arshad and Ashraf and added that the suspects Sajid and Arshad were said to be close aides of Baba Ladla. Further investigation is underway.
