Investment opportunities and friendly policy of the government of Pakistan will attract more Malaysian investment in Pakistan, said Datuk Seri Samy Vellu, special envoy to Malaysian Prime Minister on India and South Asia (Infrastructure).
A number of Malaysian companies are already investing in the telecom, housing and construction sector and hoped more investment opportunities for Malaysian companies in Pakistan, said Datuk Seri in a meeting with Secretary Communications Dr Anwar Ahmad Khan, where the former was briefed on the on-going National Highway Authority (NHA) projects.
The Special Envoy is on visit to Pakistan to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan. Malaysian High Commissioner to Pakistan Dato Ahmad Anwar Adrian was also present on this occasion. Datuk Seri Samy Vellu took keen interest in the projects available for investment and said Malaysian investment in Pakistan would increase the bondage between the people of two countries.
While briefing the envoy, Dr Anwar Ahmad Khan said that Ministry of Communication was following an open-ended policy for convenience of the investors and would provide all incentives to them. He further said that NHA had set up a road development portfolio and the fiscal space available was not enough to finance all those projects. A number of projects were available for foreign investment, he said, adding NHA was planning to convert the N-5 (G T Road) highway into an expressway. "There are no right of way issues or security concerns in this project and is available for investment."
He further offered rehabilitation and modernisation of toll collection system of M-2, conversion of M-3 into six-lane motorway, construction of 100 Km four-lane Khanewal-Lodhran expressway, construction of 385 km four-lane Lodhran-Sukkur Expressway and rehabilitation and improvement of 350 km Sukhar-Hyderabad Highway to the visiting delegation on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis.
