The Malaysian government has donated $1 million to be utilised by MERCY Malaysia, a leading Malaysian relief agency, to undertake various projects in Sindh to alleviate the sufferings of flood-hit people, Pakistan High Commission in Kuala Lumpur told Business Recorder in an e-mail message on Tuesday.
It said the announcement was made by Malaysia's Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohilan Pillay at a ceremony at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia in Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur, to give away a cheque for $1 million to MERCY Malaysia. High Commissioner for Pakistan to Malaysia Masood Khalid was also present when the cheque was handed over to MERCY Malaysia's President, Dato' Dr Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus.
Appreciating the generosity of the government and people of Malaysia, Pakistan High Commissioner Masood Khalid said the government and the people of Pakistan valued the help from their Malaysian brethren and the aid was sure to go a long way in forging our bilateral relations further, especially in promoting people-to-people contacts. He also lauded the relief assistance provided by the Malaysian government to Pakistan during the 2005 earthquake and the 2010 floods for which the Malaysian government had donated Rs $1 million to Pakistan.
