At least 16 Indian soldiers on duty in the mountains of occupied Kashmir were killed and three others were missing in massive avalanches, officials said on Thursday. Two avalanches swept late Wednesday through army camps in Dawar and Sonamarg, both near the heavily militarised Line of Control that divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
