The textile and clothing exports declined by 7 per cent in US dollar value and 20 per cent in quantity wise as compared to corresponding period of July-January (2010-11). According to the official data of textile exports till 31st January released on Friday that Pakistan exported textile and clothing products worth $6.936 billion from July to January FY 2011-12 as against $7.436 billion exports of July-January 2010-11, a loss of about $500 million in first seven months of 2011-12.
The export data indicated that in the month of January 2012, exports dipped by 17 percent as compared to January 2011 exports. In January 2012 Pakistan exported textile and clothing products worth $982.418 million against $1.180993 billion of January 2011.
Cotton yarn export decreased by 22 per cent from $1.198 billion to $935.8 million, knitwear by 9 percent from $1.307251 billion to $1.193626 billion, bed wear by 9 percent from $1.161 billion to $1.055 billion, towels by 7 per cent from $407 million to $379.768 million, art, silk & synthetic textile by 8 per cent from $351.448 million to $307.106 million, made up articles 7 per cent from $351.448 million to $325.735 million during first seven months of 2011-12 as compared to July-January of 2010-11.
The data indicated that month of January 2012 was especially depressed for Pakistani textile exports as they fell by $200 million from $1.1180933 billion (2011) to $982.415 million. However, Pakistan managed to maintain the momentum of export of cotton cloth worth $1,3349 billion, which was the same during last year's corresponding. Raw cotton export also registered an increase of 13 per cent from $183.365 million to $208.068 million.
