Minister for Interior, Rehman Malik on Friday said the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been directed to write to Interpol for issuance of Red Warrant against General Pervez Musharraf (Retd).
He said procedure has started now and the FIA would approach Interpol within next few days for issuance of red warrant so as to arrest former military dictator and bring him back to Pakistan to face charges of his alleged involvement in murder of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.
"We have started the procedure and we will bring Musharraf back to the country soon with a red notice issued through Interpol," Malik told media here after having a meeting with a delegation from the United States. When asked to comment on withdrawal of cases against exiled Baloch leaders, Rehman Malik said such a move is a part of the PPP's reconciliation policy and added Chief Secretary has been directed to gather details of cases and withdraw them.
He said only those cases were being withdrawn which do not have third party involvement, adding that all the cases, which they claim, are of political victimisation would be withdrawn. "Baloch people are being facilitated under Aghaz-i-Haqooq-i-Balochistan Package through implementation of numerous development projects and policy actions. Basically, our objective is to bring prosperity to people of the province and end their deprivation," he said.
Rehman Malik enumerated different projects and said Federal Government would employ 15,000 young graduates and post graduates from Balochistan under Prime Minister Internship Programme. These interns will work as school teachers in the province and will be given Rs 15,000 per month internship stipend, he added. It has also been decided to double the number of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) beneficiaries from 375,000 to 750,000 in the province.
Rehman Malik further said that no check post would be established by Frontier Constabulary (FC) in the province without the permission of Chief Minister Balochistan. The FC and Coast Guard will exercise powers under the Custom Act and strictly in accordance with law and keep their deployment restricted to 10 km of the international border.
Answering a question, he said, "We want friendship and not fight. We want development and betterment of people of the province and those who are creating negative impression would not succeed in their designs. We all have to make sincere efforts to save Pakistan which was achieved after sacrificing precious lives." Malik said there are only a few people who are talking about sovereignty of the province and enmity, but they would be dealt with iron hands.
He said President and Prime Minister are giving priority to the Balochistan issue and are trying to ensure rights for the people of province, adding that by grace of Allah Almighty, the patriotic people of Balochistan would soon win. About his meeting with the US delegation, Rehman Malik said the matter of resolution on Balochistan in US Congress was raised. The US side informed that this move was initiated by an individual and it has no official standing.
He appreciated the timely statement of US Administration, clarifying US position that it does not represent the official policy of the United States and that the United States respects the territorial integrity of Pakistan. The delegation of US Congressmen was led by David Dreier, Chairman House Democracy Partnership and Chairman House Rules Committee US.
