Continuing the trend of family politics, new generation of PPP's leadership entered practical politics in the shape of Hasnain Mirza who won the by-election for the seat of MPA from PS-57 (Badin-I) vacated by his father Dr Zulifqar Mirza. According to unofficial information, PPP's candidate on PS-57 (Badin-I) Hasnain Mirza won the by-election by taking more than 45,000 votes.
The election was held on Saturday, wherein more than 60,000 votes were cast in 115 polling stations of the constituency. A high-level official of the provincial Election Commissioner's office told Business Recorder that according to results, of about 100 out of 115 poling stations, PPP's candidate Hasnain Mirza achieved more than 45,000 votes while his hot rival PML-L's Syed Ali Bux Shah received about 9,000 votes. He further said that PML-N's candidate Mir Manzoor Talpur achieved more than 2,500 votes while MQM's Ghazi Salahudin got more than 1,000 and SNP's Asharf Noonari got more than 500 votes (Noonari announced his retirement in support of Hasnain Mirza).
When this scribe talked with some well-informed local people, they told that only one major dispute was held at the Esa Soomro polling station where one man, namely Adam Soomro (supporter of Hashim Soomro independent candidate) got injured and was hurriedly shifted to local hospital for treatment. They told that officials stopped voting process in some polling stations for a few hours. These included Khada, Girls High School, Tando Bago and Naon Abad, due to the information of fake voting.
Meanwhile, PML-L's Syed Ali Bux Shah has refused to accept the victory of Hasnain Mirza and alleged that rigging took place at all polling stations. He said that more 10 MPAs of PPP, including Sharjil Memon, Imran Laghari, Javaid Shah, Imdad Pitafi, Taimoor Taplur and others played their illegal role and 'fake votes were caste in their supervision'.
He alleged that many police officers posted in Karachi and other areas were also present on polling stations to support the former home minister's son. He announced that he will knock the doors of Supreme Court of Pakistan against the managed rigging done by Dr Zulifqar Mirza.
PML-N's Mir Manzoor Talpur, also, alleged that supporters of Hasnain Mirza stopped his agents to sit in polling stations, which means that rigging did take place. On the other hand, Hasnain Mirza has rejected the allegations levelled by Papu Shah and Manzoor Talpur and thanked the people of Badin for electing him.
