The claim of Islamabad police that foolproof security measures have been taken across the Capital proved baseless, as crime rate continued to soar. Despite the huge deployment of Capital police at every corner in the town five vehicles were stolen by the carjackers in broad daytime, 11 cases of robbery registered, three people including a women were killed while one person lost his life in a road accident.
During last week Aabpara Police Station registered two cases of robbery, a road accident in which one person lost his life and in second case police recovered a dead body of a woman who was shot dead by unknown people and her body thrown near Jasmeen Park, located near the Red Zone, which raises questions of vigilance of security personnel in a sensitive area.
Similarly, Kohsar Police Station registered two cases of car lifting and one case of robbery. Two cases of robbery and a case of carjacking was reported to Shehzad Town Police Station. Sihala Police registered three cases of robbery during last week. Secretariat Police registered one case of robbery and Koral Police Station registered one case each of robbery and murder.
During the last week car lifters snatched a car at gunpoint and killed the driver on the spot in the limits of Golra Police Station. Similarly, a man was robbed at gunpoint in the limits of Golra Police Station and the perpetrator fled the scene. A police official on condition of anonymity said that the main reason for rising incidents of car lifting, robbery and kidnapping is that Capital's police is busy in special duties and can not concentrate on protecting citizens.
About rising car lifting in the city he said that to control this menace the higher authorities need to ask Capital Development Authority (CDA) to construct parking plazas in the city. He also said that police complaint cell is receiving a number of complaints daily, mostly from poor people residing in the periphery areas of the city and the police officials do not register their case in order to show their good performance.
