At least 12 students sustained injuries when two student organisations frayed at University of Karachi in the limits of Mobina Town police station on Monday. According to eye-witnesses, all educational activities were suspended when the workers of Peoples Students Federation (PSF) and Punjabi Student Association (PSA) charged each other with batons, rods and other lethal tools, leaving 12 students injured.
The clash, which was started between them over pasting of the poster of Benazir Bhutto Football tournament by PSF near Admin Block, has caused to engage both organisations. Representative of PSF Karachi, Faisal Sheikh claimed that the clash was flared up by PSA that left several of PSF workers injured. He said that five PSF workers including Basharatullah were arrested but after negotiation all of them were released.
However, the representatives of PSA dispelled the responsibility of said clash, saying that workers of PSF, despite several warnings not to paste posters at the said place, did the same that led this scuffle. Although the Police and Rangers rushed to the spot after the said incident, they were also maltreated by the workers of said student organisation that left no option but to use baton-charged and fired teargas shells to disperse them.
Meanwhile, Additional SHO Mobina Town Sub Inspector Zulfiqar said the workers of those organisations had also engaged in hot debate on Saturday but now they charged each other with batons, rods and other lethal tools that led to suspend educational activities in KU for three hours. He further said the situation was now under control and added that nobody was arrested while the case in this regard has so far not been registered.
