Instead of taking actions against concerned officials of Education and Irrigation over their non-seriousness, Jam Tamachi Unarr, Chairman Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has cancelled the scheduled meetings of committee on the requests of officials of the said departments, Business Recorder learnt on Monday.
Sindh Assembly's PAC has to start its meetings from February 28 (today), 2012. It has to consider deferred paras/printed paras for the financial year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 (Auditor Generals report 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09, and appropriation accounts for the year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08, of Education and Literacy department on first day.
On February 29, 2012, the PAC has to consider the deferred paras/printed paras for the financial year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 (Auditor Generals report 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09) and appropriation accounts for the year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08) of Irrigation department.
During the scheduled third meeting, PAC has to consider the deferred paras/printed paras for the financial year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 (Auditor Generals report 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09) and appropriation accounts for the year 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08) of Health department on March 1, 2012.
Sources inside the Education department told this scribe that Secretary department Mohammad Siddique Memon has gone to Saudi Arabia for performing the Umrah so that In-charge Secretary has requested the PAC Chairman for cancelling the meeting. While, sources inside the Irrigation department told that officials of said department have placed the same request to the PAC Chairman to cancel the meeting, giving reasons that department is facing emergency situation due to rehabilitation of Indus dykes and making plan to face the upcoming monsoon.
Sources said that PAC use to call meetings over the audit reports in which embezzlements of millions of rupees made by departments/institutions came to discuss so that PAC Chairman should issue explanation calls to the concerned officials over their non-serious behaviour despite cancelling the meetings. When contacted, Jam Tamachi Unarr said that reason expressed by the departments to cancel the meetings are valid that's why I have cancelled the meetings which would be held again after the Sindh assembly session.
