Agricultural farmers: 'measures afoot to help meet water shortage'

Punjab government is planning to take all necessary steps and initiate projects to help farmers in meeting the shortage of water for agricultural purposes and introduction of high-efficiency irrigation technology is a part of these efforts. This was stated by Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Muhammad Mushtaq Ahmad while presiding over a meeting at Agriculture House, here on Monday.
He said under this project, highly efficient irrigation system (drip and sprinkle irrigation system) is being installed on an area of 120,000 acre of land, 9,000 watercourses are being improved and subsidy is being provided for 3,000 laser land levellers. The meeting was informed that the government would bear 60 percent cost of the project while the growers would have to pay 40 percent only. It was also told that a subsidy of Rs 10,000 would be given for construction of water pond on one acre of land in the province.
