Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said that the worst ever epidemic of dengue last year was countered in an organised manner and due to the efforts of politicians, bureaucrats, doctors, experts and various institutions, the campaign for eradication of dengue yielded positive results.
He was talking to the delegates of the World Health Organisation (WHO), and other countries in connection with international conference on dengue. Provincial ministers, Assembly members, secretaries of various departments, senior doctors and experts were also present on the same occasion.
Shahbaz said that full preparations have been made for dealing with the outbreak of dengue this year as well. "Two cabinet committees are assisting institutions in the arrangements for prevention from dengue virus," he added. He expressed gratitude to Sri Lanka and Indonesia for extending timely help in the drive against dengue.
He welcomed the holding of international conference on dengue under the joint collaboration of the WHO and the Punjab government, and said that it has helped in benefiting from each others' experiences. The WHO Country Head Dr Guido Sabatinelli said dengue is the problem of the whole region. He also appreciated the commitment and dedication of the Chief Minister and his team in dealing with the dengue virus.
