The governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Barrister Masood Kausar on Wednesday said that that the government was committed to bring a qualitative change in the life of people of FATA and hoped that the international community will come forward to help the people of FATA in their efforts for progress and prosperity.
He was addressing the launching ceremony of "Understanding FATA" a research report prepared by Community Appraisal and Motivation Programme (CAMP), held here at a local hotel. The ceremony was attended by tribal parliamentarians, tribal elders, journalists, diplomats.
Governor said that the crises in FATA were not created by the tribal people, it was the International Community, which wanted them to fight against the soviets but later they were left alone. Barrister Masood underlined the need for creating a better image of FATA and said that just efforts can prove very helpful in this regard. He said that the tribal was a totally different society before the soviets presence in Afghanistan.
The tribal society, he added was even now a very disciplined, more law abiding and peace loving society and the tribesmen were more patriotic than others. These areas may be materially less developed but in other ways they are far better than other areas, he said.
Talking about the FATA reforms, Governor Masood Kausar said that these reforms were announced after taking all the stakeholders on board. Every step introduced by the government was thoroughly discussed and stakeholders were consulted at different level, he said. He was of the view that it was beginning and more reforms would be introduced with the passage of time. The political parties had been given full liberty in political activities in FATA and it would also make a space for more reforms after creating consensus.
Masood said that with the introduction of amendments in FCR, it had been made mandatory to produce an arrested person before the magistrate within 24 hours. He said that the concept of bail has also been introduced for the first time in FATA through these amendments.
