Hike in power tariff, POL prices: Jamaat-e-Islami announces countrywide protest
Jamaat-e-Islami, Ameer, Syed Munawar Hasan has denounced the raise in electricity, gas and petroleum prices and appealed for a countrywide protest on Sunday. He said here on Thursday that the rulers were exploiting the masses. The government had secured loans amounting to trillions from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank and the foreign donors were bent upon ruining Pakistan's economy.
Munawar Hasan said that the POL prices in the world market were coming down while the same were raised in this country to fulfil the IMF conditional ties. He said that currency notes of billions were being printed every day, which was causing rise in inflation. The prices of POL, gas and electricity were being enhanced every fortnight leading to unending price increase, he added.
He was of the opinion that the nation is not able to understand where the huge amount of money was going as no big project was in hand. This showed that the corruption of the rulers had crossed all limits and trillions of public money being plundered, he said. The masses were getting poorer day by day while the rulers were getting richer, he added. He urged the general public to condemn the raise in oil price by holding rallies and protest meeting across the country on Sunday.
