The 'divided' Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Waheeda Shah, a Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate, to appear before the commission on Tuesday over the charges of riggings and slapping of its lady polling officers on the eve of bye-polls on February 25.
"The full Election Commission of Pakistan would be hearing the case against Waheeda Shah that also include charges of rigging," said an ECP official. He said a citizen Mushtaq Ali Talpur has levelled charges of rigging against Waheeda Shah in the bye-elections on February 25 at the polling station No 16, Government Girls High School, Tando Muhammad Khan, besides the charges of slapping an assistant presiding officer at the same polling station.
On the other hand, sources told Business Recorder that the differences between Chief Election Commissioner and ECP members from Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and Secretary ECP still persist over taking action against the PPP candidate. The sources said that ECP members from the three provinces and its secretary were in favour of taking action against the errant candidate, while CEC and member of the commission from Sindh were against taking any action. They said that one the main reasons of ECP Secretary's resignation was these differences.
