Aimed at averting the onslaught of dengue mosquito in the city, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has conducted a survey across the city, mapped areas which had shown dengue positive individuals in previous years, formulated a plan and began pre-emptive action.
The CDA's Health Services Directorate of CDA has marked areas that are known to provide a conducive environment for dengue mosquito breeding. Three categories of areas have been identified including high risk, moderate risk and low risk to deal with these areas, an official said.
He said that after completing high risk mapping, Directorate of Health Services has designed and started preemptive measures to avert the threat of dengue spread in the municipal limits of CDA. A detailed plan of action has been prepared specially focusing on high-risk areas.
According to the plan, spray and fumigation was carried out from January to February 2012. The anti-malaria squad has drained out maximum larval habitats and breeding sites including ponds, nullahs, and streams. Canalisation of stagnant natural streams have been completed in Katchi Abadis in sector G-7, F-7 and G-9. Channelization of the blocked nullahs have been done in sector H-8/4, I-8/2, F-11/1, H-9/3, F-11/1, F-6/2, F-11/4, F-10/3, F-10/4, F-7/4, G-6, H-9/3, G-7/2, F-11/4, G-9/3, F-11/4, G-6/1-4, G-8/1, and G-7/1, I-9/4, I-11/4, G-8/4, F-10/1 and F-10/2, G-11/4, H-9/3, F-11/1, F-6/2, F-11/4, F-10/3, F-10/4, H-8/4, G-7 and G-7/3-1.
