Police put up 'wanted poster' outside Rao Anwar's house

Sindh police conducted a raid on Tuesday at former Malir Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) Rao Anwar's house in Islamabad and put up a 'wanted' poster outside his house.

According to local media reports, the police raided Anwar's residence in F-10/4 but were unable to find the former SSP. The raid was conducted on the day when the deadline given by the Supreme Court to Inspector General (IG) of Sindh Police Allah Dino Khawaja was expiring.

The police have been looking for Anwar, who is wanted in an extra judicial murder case, but have failed to arrest him yet. Earlier on Tuesday, an Anti-Terrorism Court remanded to police custody for two days an accused, identified as Saleem Jafar, who was arrested for announcing head money of Rs 5 million on social media for the former SSP Anwar.

Anwar has gone into hiding after his attempt to flee the country last week was foiled by the Federal Investigation Agency. He has failed to appear before the SC, even though he was summoned.

The former SSP is wanted in the ‘extra judicial murder’ of 27-year-old Naqeebullah, a native of Waziristan. He was killed, along with three other suspected terrorists, on January 13 in an alleged encounter with a police team headed by Anwar. However, Naqeebullah’s family has claimed that the deceased was innocent and was killed in a ‘fake’ encounter.
