Crime Branch of Sindh police on Tuesday claimed to have apprehended an alleged killer of five family members during a raid near Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). According to SP Farooq Awan, the accused person, who was identified as Mohammad Ishaq, was arrested in a raid near JPMC.
He said that they had started monitoring the calls on the victims cell phones, which were gone missing after the incident. Moreover, he said the team of crime branch received information that one of the cell phones of victims was being operated from the said area. Reacting on the information, the team had conducted raid and arrested the accused Ishaq. He said the accused person during initial course of investigation confessed to have murdered all five family members and the police had also recovered the murder weapon (knife) from his possession.
He said the accused in his statement informed crime branch that he was working as driver some six months ago but he was terminated from the job on the complaint of other driver. He said the accused, who was gambler and a drug addict, had Rs 45,000 debt that forced him to barge into the house for robbery purpose. SP Farooq said the accused Ishaq entered the house for looting purpose but was noticed by victim Aliya. He said the accused person first killed Aliya then her husband Zubair and later he murdered Arif and Zainab.
Moreover, he said the accused in his statement said the victim Ridha, who watched whole bloody episode, tried to confine herself in her room but he immediately approached her and thrust a knife into her body till her death and added that he also confessed to have committed the said crime alone. SP Awan also claimed that the crime branch had also recovered four cell phones, Rs 7500 and some gold ornaments from his possession. Five stabbed bodies were recovered inside the residence located near Cant Station in the jurisdiction of Saddar police station on February 29.
