Sindh Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan has said the coalition partners of Sindh government would soon reach consensus with regard to promulgation new local government system. He expressed this while talking to media persons during his visit to under-construction Mehran Highway on Tuesday.
City Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed, MNA Asif Hasnain, Director General Technical Services Altaf G Memon, Chairman Export Processing Zones Authority Tariq Hassan and other high officials were also present on the occasion. He said that promulgation of new local system is a hectic process which would be done soon. "We are contemplating to take some positives from SLGO 1979 and some from SLGO 2001 to develop a new system", he said.
On this occasion he said about 3.7km portion of Mehran Highway had been completed in the first phase of the project with a cost of Rs 300 million while the second phase which involved the construction of 5km long road will be completed with a cost of Rs 450 million with the co-operation of Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA).
He said the completion of first phase of the project would facilitate the common man and the industrialists and it would pave way for establishment of more industrial units in the area. Government of Sindh and JICA were co-operating in the construction of this highway that would likely to accelerate the industrial process and give stability to industrial sector.
While giving a briefing to the Governor of Sindh, the Administrator KMC Muhammad Hussain Syed said the encroachments in the way of Mehran Highway were removed. The highway would have a length of 11km and 3 metres wide green belt in the middle where trees will be planted.
An R CC drain will also be constructed for drainage of rainwater. Governor of Sindh appreciating the standard of work directed to maintain the ASHTO Standard in all three phases of the project. He said this highway would be used by foreigners visiting the Export Processing Zones Authority besides the citizens of Karachi. This corridor holds much importance due to its usage for shipment and supplies to Pakistan from various countries.
He said the development process was continued in Karachi as construction work underway on Hub River Road, Shahra-e-Quaideen, Shara-e-Altaf, Korangi Causeway, 8 thousand and 12 thousand road, Shaheed-e-Millat Road and other roads while the country's largest Banars Flyover had been completed recently.
The Governor later went to Export Processing Zone Authority where Chairman Muhammad Tariq Hassan gave a briefing to him about the authority. He also thanked the governor and Administrator KMC for construction of Mehran Highway and presented a memento of EPZA to Governor of Sindh.
