A provincial lawmaker of Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded (PML-L), Abdul Razzaq Rahimoon on Tuesday accused the government of conspiring to disqualify his party's chief, former Chief Minister Sindh Dr Ghulam Arbab Rahim, as member of the provincial assembly by denying leave to him.
Talking to newsmen after the Sindh Assembly session, he said the government's policy of reconciliation was a gimmick and it was just meant to serve its interests. He said the President Zardari's policy of political reconciliation was being weakened by some of his party men by pushing Dr Arbab Rahim toward de-seating by not granting him leave from assembly on health grounds.
He said his party had always supported the PPP government's legislation and resolutions, which its legislators had presented in the house in support of President Zardari and Prime Minister Gilani. He said the house for the last three and a half years had approved the former CM Sindh's leave application but suddenly it refused to allow it anymore.
Rahimoon said the PPP was taking revenge from Arbab Rahim after his party decided to go for senate elections. He said if his party did not participated in the recent senate polls the government would have allowed him leave as it was doing in the past. He said it was his party's constitutional right to take part in the elections. PPP legislators' dominated Sindh Assembly on Monday rejected the former Chief Minister Sindh, Dr Ghulam Arbab Rahim's leave applications. In the application Rahim had stated he was in Dubai at present and could not attend the assembly for having poor health.
