Syria called on international media companies on Tuesday not to send reporters to the country illegally, saying it had allowed more than 200 media delegations to visit areas hit by the conflict. "We want you to tell the journalism and media institutions and trade unions not to send any journalists illegally," said Elias Mrad, president of the Federation of Journalists in Syria, in a letter addressed the International Federation of Journalists.
Damascus "has granted more than 200 media delegations authorisation to enter Syria, permitting them to visit zones affected" by the conflict, said the letter, a copy of which was seen by AFP. Mrad criticised some news organisations for their "insistence" on sending correspondents illegally, which he called an "offense."
