A spokesman of the Ministry of Water and Power has stated that the government has not taken any decision to increase the power tariff on the basis of determinations of Nepra and the reports of 83 percent increase have no authenticity. It stated that Nepra has given determination for revision of base power tariff only for six distribution companies.
The ministry has not received determined tariff for the remaining three companies. After receiving the determination for all the distribution companies from Nepra, the government will decide that whether tariff will be revised or not or how much subsidy will be given to the consumers to reduce the tariff.
The spokesman stated that it is incorrect, misleading and baseless to state by some elements that the government is going for massive increase in the power tariff, as currently there is no proposal under consideration to raise the tariff by the ministry.-PR
