Chief Co-ordinator and former chairman Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PRGMEA) Ijaz Khokhar hailed the approval of the bill for setting up Special Economic Zones (SEZs) by the Senate and termed it a right step in the right direction.
In an interview with APP here on Saturday, he said this move would open a new era of industrial growth as well as generate employment opportunities across the country. The business community of this export-oriented city and hub of cottage industry of the country would consider establishing Special Economic Zone in Sialkot for accelerating the pace of industrial growth, he added.
Ijaz urged local investors to come forward and think positively about establishing SEZ in Sialkot, adding, if this project materialised the garment and textile would grow rapidly. He underscored the need for producing a large number of skilled industrial workers for meeting the requirements of the proposed SEZs. Provincial and Federal Governments, he said, should take drastic steps for setting up training institutes separately for males and females aimed at producing skilled industrial workforce for overcoming the shortage of skilled labour.
