The Supreme Court has directed the Lahore High Court to decide the plea against Pakistan Muslim League-N chief Nawaz Sharif regarding alleged unfair distribution of Baitul Maal funds during his two tenures of prime ministership. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, while dismissing the petition filed by Al Jihad Trust against PML-N president, observed that the matter was already pending in the LHC.
During the hearing, an applicant, Chairman Al Jihad Trust Wahabul Khairi, told the bench that by using his discretion, Nawaz Sharif had doled out Rs 50.5 million among 9793 people in 1992. He contended that Baitul Maal funds were distributed on the basis of nepotism. The court observed that two intra court appeals were pending in LHC in this regard. Therefore, it could not take up the case at this stage. The court directed the LHC to immediately decide the pleas against the PML-N chief in accordance with law.
