Chairman Consumers Association of Pakistan (CAP) Kaukab Iqbal on Thursday has demanded of the government to take action against the shopkeepers who increased the prices of different products on their own. Speaking on the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, Kaukab Iqbal said that consumers must unite all over the country against inflation, counterfeit and hazardous products to protect their rights and identify hoarders.
To give relief to Pakistani consumers, Vice Chairman Legal Affairs CAP, Advocate Javaid Chhatari strongly demanded that Sindh government must promulgate the Consumers Protection Act immediately. He also mentioned that in spite of commitment from Sindh Government the act could not be enforced. Now the consumers are looking at government asking the members of assembly to takeout time to resolve this long awaited issue.
He categorically mentioned that the production of fake and ineffective life saving drugs must also be effectively controlled to protect consumers. 15th March is the World Consumer Rights Day and being celebrated in Pakistan and Internationally. The consumers from developed countries are enjoying their rights but due to lacking of awareness Pakistani consumers are deprived of their rights. This was stated by General Secretary CAP, Engr. Farida Essa.
She also said that promulgation of Consumers Protection Acts in three provinces, establishment of consumers' courts in 11 districts of Punjab, setting up consumers' protection departments in the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority are the achievement of CAP's efforts.
Recently an Air Passenger Facilitation Center is started functioning and jointly managed by CAP & CAA. Engr. Farida Essa emphases again and again to attain the objective of today walk consumers must learn and practice their rights as it has been in other parts of world.-PR
