The leadership of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), and Saarc-CCI join hands to foster Indo-Pakistan economic co-operation through meaningful collaborations in areas of mutual interests.
According to a statement issued here on Friday, this was decided in a meeting held in New Delhi between Pakistan business leaders Tariq Sayeed, Vice President CACCI, former & Founder President Saarc-CCI and former president FPCCI, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Vice President Saarc-CCI & former president FPCCI, and CII officials including Director General Chandrajit Banerjee, Deputy Director General Supriya Bannerji and Additional Director Manish Mohan, who also discussed the mechanism to develop sustainable co-operation through establishment of joint ventures in industries with a particular focus on co-operation in small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
The CII showed its interest to become a member of Saarc-CCI and proposed annual get-together including B-2-B meetings and match-makings in specific areas and launching of website for exchange of business information. They agreed upon the frequent exchange of delegations and participation and organisation of fairs and exhibitions on reciprocal basis.
Iftikhar Ali Malik said that an enormous potential was existed in the automobile sector, which could further be tapped through joint ventures and transfer of technology, which would help improve standards of manufacturing of Automobile in Pakistan. Tariq Sayeed enlightened CII that Saarc-CCI had done necessary amendment in the constitution, which allowed two Chambers and Associations in addition to national chambers (already primary members) from each member states with an objective to broaden the scope of co-operation.
The CII officials briefed that CII had nine centres of excellence, 64 offices in India and operated under a modern institutional framework constituting of 100 executive committee members and had global outreach through overseas offices. Tariq Sayeed desires that during next visit to India, he would like to visit some cities of India, where CII has its offices, so that they would interact with the manufacturers in those cities.
