The Executive Board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Thursday approved the voluntary return of Rs 98 million by former Justice Malik Qayyum in Aglam Global Links (Pvt) Ltd (Qasr-e-Zauk) case. Malik Qayyum was the illegal beneficiary in this case, who obtained money in the shape of 63 plots depriving the remaining claimants of their share.
The case was expedited on the directives of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. The meeting also approved the voluntary return submitted by the World Automobiles for Rs 70 million as per rules for misappropriation of public funds in supply of automobiles to CIDA-funded Education Project in Sindh. The Board meeting was chaired by Chairman NAB, Adm Fasih Bokhari (rtd).
The Board rejected the plea bargain offer of Rs 3.077 billion made by Sheik Mohammad Afzal in the Bank of Punjab case and decided to re-determine the plea bargain amounts as the principal amount borrowed by them for the Bank was Rs 8.404 billion.
The meeting authorized to conduct an inquiry against Sohail Ahmed, CEO and Islam Akhtar Khan, Project Director of Gujranwala Tool Dies and Moulds Centre (GTDMC), for corruption and misappropriation of public funds with a directive to complete it within a period of two months. The inquiries were sent by the Ministry of Production. The board reviewed the inquiries/ investigations against Rai Zameerul Haq, former DSP, Zahid Hussain Bhatti, Deputy Director CDA, MS Fakhar Karim former EDO. Ms Shama Rashidi former SDEO Hyderabad, Muhammad Jan, former XEN Irrigation KPK and Major Dr Muhammad Naseem Khan (rtd) of Peshawar and approved closures of these after deliberations on merit.
The meeting also discussed the inquiries/ investigations against Abdul Latif Khan of CMA Multan, Syed Mubashir Hussain Shah, former Chief Engineer Irrigation Department, Fazal Abbas SE Wapda and Javed Iqbal Chaudhry former project Director Water Drainage Supply and Sanitation project Lahore and closed them.
It also decided to close the inquiries against management of Gulf Approved Medical Center Association. The meeting also deliberated the cases of Divisional Engineers of PTCL Quetta and Khuzdar regions, based on audit paras and decided to close the inquiries due to non-availability of substantial evidence.
