Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and United States Ambassador to Pakistan Cameron Munter on Thursday discussed Islamabad's re-engagement with Washington. According to Foreign Office, Ambassador Munter called on Foreign Minister Khar and discussed matters relating to bilateral relations especially Pakistan's re-engagement with the US.
The minister underscored that the parliamentary process would give public ownership to the re-engagement, and transparency and predictability to Pakistan's relations with the United States. The meeting held at the time when the parliament is opening debate on the 16-point recommendations on Monday that have been finalised by Parliamentary Committee on National Security (PCNS), which besides other proposals also called upon the government to seek an apology from the US for the last year November 26 Salala air-strike by Nato.
According to Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit, the future Pak-US co-operation would be depending on the final recommendations and the policy guidelines of the joint parliamentary session.
A statement issued following the meeting said that the ambassador told the foreign minister that the US fully respected the parliamentary process and was looking forward to putting Pakistan-US relations back on track on the basis of mutual respect. They also discussed the situation in Afghanistan and the upcoming Nuclear Security Summit in Seoul.
