Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Tuesday unveiled the amended draft of the party constitution amid rumours that it was done without following the due process in this regard. Several members of the constitution committee complained that it was done without following the due process in this regard and none of members' signatures were taken before formally making it public.
A senior member of PTI central executive committee told Business Recorder that in CEC meeting held on March 11, the head of the constitution committee Hamid Khan tried to get passed the draft of the constitution when several members were not aware about the exact provisions of the new constitution.
The member further said that later it was put off and members were given due time to go through the document. Now it is presented before the press without having signatures of the members on final draft in an undemocratic way, the member added. "He (Hamid) did consult us that the new constitution is going to be launched before the media...we are not sure whether the revised amendments were made part of the constitution or not", the member added.
The member who declined to be named also claimed that PTI chief Imran Khan was also not aware about the press conference in which Hamid Khan was going to announce the revised constitution of the party. The PTI has unveiled numerous plans in its revised constitution, of which education, provincial autonomy, provision of justice, health, and land reforms in the country, would be its top priority in future.
Hamid Khan, who is the chairman of the constitution committee, said that the land reform system of PTI would be proved a movement against unlawful feudal system launched by cruel landlords. He further said that his party objective as stated in the constitution also includes to weed-out qabza mafias from the country. When asked how PTI would accomplish the gigantic task of land reform, as he himself has been is a leading counsel for country's biggest property tycoon and 'qabza mafia' since long, Hamid Khan said that his profession has nothing to do with the position he is holding in PTI.
"Land reforms have nothing to do with the property tycoon, like my profession has nothing to do with the position I'm holding in PTI. We don't get influence while implementing our ideas when in power," he added. Responding to another question that feudal lords are also occupying the top slots in PTI and whether it is possible to take them to task when it is land reforming, he said that constitution is for all not for some individuals.
