Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said the nation should hold President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani accountable over the performance of the PPP-led government in the last four years. While addressing 'Istehkam-e-Pakistan' conference at Jamia Naeemia on Wednesday, Nawaz asked the government to explain its four-year performance.
"The nation should be apprised about a single project initiated by the PPP government, which was beneficial for the masses," he said. Nawaz maintained that people are on roads due to faulty policies of the rulers. In this situation, how the government can make claim of rendering public service, he added.
Expressing concerns over ongoing energy crises, he said the present regime had not initiated any worthwhile project. Those who depend on foreign aid and follow dictation cannot bring prosperity, he said. He was of the view that the country could not get development in current deteriorating situation of electricity and gas shortage. He said that electricity load shedding began in the tenure of Musharraf, while the government had not taken any step to resolve the issue. The nation would have to seek an explanation from Pervez Musharraf, Asif Zardari and Gilani for their performance, he said.
The PML-N President said he never capitulated to any foreign pressure whatsoever; but, Pervez Musharraf succumbed to US pressure. He said there were no missile attacks on Pakistani soil during the PML-N's term; nor were there any suicide attacks in the country. The terrorist phenomenon came to the fore during Musharraf era, he added. "In PML-N's tenure, Indian premier Vajpayee came to Pakistan on board a bus," he said.
Nawaz also highlighted the performance of PML-N regime and said the country is safe now due to being an atomic power. He also announced that the PML-N will join hands with those religious parties in the general elections, which believe in development of the country, rule of law, strengthening of democracy and national development programme.
Sunni Tehreek leader Sarwat Ijaz Qadri said on the occasion that religious and political parties would have to forge unity to put an end to foreign intervention and getting terrorism free Pakistan. Dr Aamir Liaquat and others also spoke on the occasion.
