An 8-member delegation of Deutcher Presse Verband, DPV (German Press and Journalists Association) arrived in Lahore on Wednesday in line with the meetings with Punjab Chief Minister in Berlin in January 2012. The delegation headed by Kerstin Nyst, visited the office of Punjab Board of Investment & Trade (PBIT).
Dr Miftah Ismail, Vice Chairman PBIT, Ejaz Munir, Secretary Higher Education, Yousaf Kamal, CEO Daanish School Authority, Dr Sajid Yoosufani, CEO PBIT and Dr Rafique Ur Rehman from the Agriculture Department were also present. The aim of the visit is to promote positive image of Pakistan in the German Media. Dr Ismail said that Punjab offers some of the most lucrative and low-risk opportunities for investors in Asia, especially in the fields of energy, agriculture, livestock and dairy, mines and minerals and tourism.
He said: "PBIT has been functioning as an investment promotion agency of the Punjab government since 2009 and has had many successes during its short tenure." Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif is himself the Chairman of PBIT, and his vision for PBIT is to attract private sector from around the world. Punjab needed rapid industrialisation and huge investments to absorb its young and energetic population into the workforce.
The provincial government is offering a pro-business environment and a positive policy framework to generate foreign and domestic investment and employment. PBIT is part of that effort to bring that investment into Punjab. Yousaf Kamal, CEO Daanish School Authority, briefed the delegates on the working of the Daanish School System one of the most cherished development initiative of the Punjab Government in the education sector.
