The Accountability Court, Sindh has convicted Mohammad Akbar Zardari and others for their involvement in corruption, corrupt practices and illegal allotment of plots/shops in New Sabzi Mandi, super highway, Karachi.
According to a National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Sindh, a reference was filed in Accountability Court, Karachi by NAB against Mohammad Akbar Zardari, ex-administrator market committee, Abdul Rasheed Sheikh, ex-secretary market committee, Ghulam Mohammad Memon, Inspect/In-charge Allotment Cell, Aziz-ur-Rehman Sheikh (Retd), ex-in-charge allotment cell market committee, Mohammad Ayaz Khan, Accounts Officer market committee, and Khadim Hussain, accountant market committee.
The accused while working for market committee, New Sabzi Mandi, Karachi in their respective positions in connivance with each other made allotment of 549 plots/shops in the year 2004 and out of these allotments, 413 have been found against the policy as laid down in Agriculture and Wildlife Department, Government of Sindh notification of September 4, 1994 and decisions of standing committee held under the chairmanship of chief secretary Sindh on March 13, 2002.
Accused issued challans to non-entitled applicants which resulted in loss to the Market Committee Fund to the tune of Rs 17 million. As a result of the illegal acts of the accused 413 illegal allotments were made to unauthorised allottees of New Sabzi Mandi, Karachi in the category of KMC traders, growers and new comers. The accused also issued illegally 31 token challans of Rs, 10,000, each to 30 employees of market committee and Sindh secretariat and thus created a liability of Rs 375,050/- on the part of market committee fund, New Sabzi Mandi, Karachi.
Judge, Accountability court No. 2, Kousar Bukhari convicted the accused and awarded punishment of RI for five years and fine of Rs 300,000 to Mohammad Akbar Zardari and Abdul Rasheed Sheikh and three years RI and fine of Rs 100,000 each to accused Aziz-ur-Rehman Sheikh, Ghulam Mohammad Memon, Mohammad Ayaz Khan and Khadim Hussain. Deputy Director Investigation, Shahzada Imtiaz Ahmed investigated the case.
