Following the killing of an Awami National Party (ANP) worker on Wednesday, a partial strike was observed on Thursday aimed sporadic incidents of violence in different areas of the city which left four more people dead. Public transport remained largely off the road throughout the city as Karachi Transport Ittehad had announced not to operate buses on Thursday due to fear of violence.
The shops, markets and other business activities remained suspended in ANP-dominated areas including Sohrab Goth, Abul Hasan Isphani Road, Patel Para, Gurumandir, Lasbella, Teen Hatti, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, SITE, Banaras and Quaidabad. In some areas of the city, petrol pumps remained closed while all educational institutions remained open.
Meanwhile, the funeral prayer of Zain-ul-Abideen, the joint secretary of ANP Patel Para Ward, who was shot dead on Wednesday, was offered in Lasbela Football Ground amid stringent security. The funeral prayer was attended by ANP's provincial minister Amir Nawab, MPA Amanullah Mehsood and provincial and local leaders besides others. Later on, the deceased was buried in Khamosh Colony graveyard.
At least four persons were shot dead in different areas while two bullets-riddled bodies were recovered. Some unidentified armed miscreants resorted to aerial firing and torched two vehicles in different areas of the city. A young man was shot dead by armed men in Orangi Town, Sector 12 in the early hours. The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained.
One Mehboob, 42, was gunned down in Old Sabzi Mandi area, while two people were killed by unidentified armed men in SITE and Gulistan-e-Jauhar areas. While bullet-riddled bodies of Jalil and Zeeshan were found from Bilalabad area of North Nazimabad in the limits of Shara-e-Noor Jahan police station. In Petal Para miscreants torched two vehicles. Police arrested six accused from Jahangir Road while attempting to torch a motorcycle. In another incident, some unidentified gunmen hijacked an Edhi ambulance (EA- 4827) on gunpoint from Gurumandir.
