The spate of targeted killing continues unabated, as four more people including an activist of Awami National Party (ANP) and a Ranger sepoy were killed in separate incidents in different areas of the metropolis here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, an activist of ANP was shot dead in Taiser Town, Surjani area in the limits of Surjani police station.
The victim, Omar Malook, 30, son of Lal Malook, resident of sector 36 Taiser Town, was targeted by unknown armed men when he was sitting outside his home. Resultantly, he received three bullets and died on the spot. The assailants managed to flee. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate medical Centre (JPMC) for medico legal formalities. Police said the victim was area president of ANP and he was working as "Munshi" at a bus stand. Police suspected that he might have been killed on political ground, adding that the eyewitnesses in their statement said two armed riders wearing Shalwar Kameez opened indiscriminate fire on him.
They said the police had recovered several empty casings of TT and 9MM pistols. Following the killing, tension prevailed in Surjani and its surrounding areas where shops and markets were closed. Later, heavy contingents of police and rangers were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. No case was registered till filing of this report. A man was gunned down near New Sabzi Mandi on Super highway in the limits of Sohrab Goth police station.
The victim, Sher Hakeem, 26, son of Fazal Badshah, was shot dead by unknown armed men. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico legal formalities. Police said the victim, who was the resident of same area where he was gunned down, had no affiliation with any political or religious party, saying that he might have been murdered over personal ground. A case was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of his younger brother, Wazeer Malook.
Meanwhile, a tortured body stuffed in a gunny bag was found from Karimabad area in the jurisdiction of Azizabad police station. The identity of victim was yet to be ascertained. SHO Haseeb Qureshi said the victim had several torture marks and his neck was strangulated with a nylon rope. He said the deceased, who wore white jeans and blue shirt, appeared to be Baloch. The body was shifted to ASH for legal formalities where doctors said he died due to suffocation. Later police moved his body to Edhi Morgue and registered a case against unidentified men.
In another incident, an injured ranger's sepoy, Irfan, 34 son of Abdul Rehman, succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital. He had been injured by unknown armed attacker on April 1 near met office Gulistan Jauhar. Police said that Irfan was crossing road along with his wife when unidentified men targeted him. Resultantly, he received four bullets and had been shifted to private hospital. Police said the victim was deployed in Shahbaz Rangers, Sukkar and at the time of incident, he was on holidays. A case, 170/12, was registered against unidentified men on the complaint of victim's wife.
