The Disaster Risk Management Society (DRMS) has been set up at the Government College University Lahore with an aim to train and prepare students, teachers and professionals in disaster risk management.
The society, established by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Khaleequr Rahman at GCU Geography Department, would work with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Rescue 1122, National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) and Provisional Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to lay out management plans for urban disasters and natural catastrophes like flood, earthquake, landslides etc. The society would also initiate Capacity Development Programmes for professionals in collaboration with their respective departments and international donor agencies.
