UNICEF in collaboration with Pakistan Village Development Programme (PVDP) has launched rehabilitation project for the psychological treatment traumatised children of the militancy affected Kurram Agency.
UNICEF in collaboration with PVDP under Child Protection Project is providing counselling to such children in the centres established in Durrani IDPs Camp at Tehsil Sadda, Kurram Agency. The centres have so far received 769 highly traumatised children and out of them 359 are girls.
According to details, out of 2,289 children living with their relatives or with other people 844 psychologically affected children have been registered with training centres. These children are hailing from central Kurram localities of Margoon, Doggar, Mamato and Tirah were displaced from their houses and now work on their mental rehabilitation is in progress.
According to Camp Co-ordinator, Mohammad Imran the organisation has obtained the services of the psychiatrists, which through counselling, games and paintings collect information regarding the affected children and then start their treatment. Before, the start of training, they also get information regarding their mental conditions and then provide them environment according to their wishes.
He said that these children through their drawing draw the sketches of crashing planes, guns, tanks and gunship to present their mind. Through the counselling riffles in their hands were replaced with pens. Children of below 18 years of the camp are provided Islamic and informative education and also given briefing on their rights under Child Rights Convention.
The organisation besides, teaching Islamic manners of cleanliness is also training them on morality. The children of camps are also provided health facilities and in minor cases after checking they are provided medicines and serious cases are referred to public sector hospitals.
