US says Indian embassy receives threat, no bomb found

The United States said that the Indian embassy in Washington was evacuated after it received a bomb threat on Tuesday but a search of its facilities turned up no explosive device. "I can confirm that there was a bomb threat at the Indian embassy in Washington earlier today," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.
"Appropriate law enforcement personnel responded immediately," she added. She said the chancery, the ambassador's residence and the visa office - the Indian mission's official locations in the US capital - were "evacuated and checked for bombs," but she added "no device was located." Nuland, who did not know if embassy staff had returned to work, said there would be an investigation into the source of the threat. A telephone answering machine at the Indian embassy said the embassy was currently closed, and nobody was immediately available for comment.
