The Punjab government has taken notice of shortage of various life saving drugs in the market and issued directions to the chief drug inspector and drug inspectors to ensure availability of essential drugs/ medicines at the medical stores throughout the province.
In this connection, Additional Secretary Health Technical has issued written instructions to all concerned officials in the light of directions of Secretary Health. The drug inspectors have been asked to check the available stocks at medical stores and take legal action against the hoarders of life saving drugs who wanted to mint money through artificial shortage of medicines in the market and send a report to the department accordingly.
Moreover, taking notice of strike call given by Young Nursing Association (YNA), a spokesman of Health Department Punjab said that Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has already increased the allowance of nurses to the tune of Rs 10,000 per month with a total impact of more than 1.30 billion of rupees.
The spokesman further said that department has promoted more than 180 nurses during the last three months into grade 17 and meeting of Departmental Promotion Committee is going to be held within a week. He said that Young Nursing Association had also admitted that Chief Minister was kind enough to increase their allowances.
The YNA representatives are aware that a committee comprising their representatives is working for amendment in service rules. As and when that committee finalises recommendations, the department will deal with it on fast track. As far as renovation of nursing hostels are concerned, the department has already directed respective EDOs health to arrange general M&R on urgent basis and prepare development schemes for special maintenance and repair to be incorporated in the next budget, the spokesman added.
