The Supreme Court on Wednesday sought a report by Thursday (today) from Attorney General for Pakistan, top legal officer of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and counsel for secret agencies over miserable condition of seven prisoners reportedly picked up from outside Adiala jail after their acquittal by spy agencies. They are presently languishing in an internment centre at Landi Kotal.
A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry is hearing a petition filed by Roifa Bibi. "We would not allow anyone to treat prisoners badly," the Chief Justice said. The CJP inquired from Raja Muhammad Irshad, the counsel for the ISI and MI, why prisoners were treated badly. Irshad apprised the court that his client's role was over because presently the Chief Secretary of KPK and provincial government were responsible for living conditions of prisoners.
Earlier, Tariq Asad counsel for missing prisoners, too informed the court that the lives of surviving out of 11 Adiala jail prisoners, who were allegedly picked up by the agencies after their release, were in danger. He said that five of them, namely Dr Niaz Ahmed, Abdul Basit, Gulrose, Muhammad Shafiq and Shafiqur Rehman were detained in the internment centre in Landi Kotal. He told the court that on April 6, 2012 he along with the relatives of missing persons visited the internment centre. The meeting of relatives along with their counsel was arranged in a very congenial environment - one by one for over an hour. But they were disappointed to see their living conditions.
