Following a police raid on the residence of banned People's Amn Committee (PAC) chief, Uzair Jan Baloch, tension gripped different areas of Lyari on Monday. Singolane and adjoining areas echoed with heavy gunfire that left four people including three women injured.
According to eyewitnesses, heavy contingent of police and Rangers took positions in Singolane and adjacent areas to arrest banned PAC leaders. But the law enforces failed to arrest the PAC leaders as unknown armed men resorted to heavy firing restraining the police from further movement. Four people, Laiba daughter of Shahid, Gul Bibi, 30, Muhammad Ali, 45, and Saveera, 9, were injured in the firing, who were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) for treatment. Sources said the raid was conducted on Uzair Baloch's residence when he was giving an interview to a foreign TV channel.
When contacted, SP Nasir Aftab confirmed that a raid was conducted following the information that Uzair, Habib Jan and Zafar Baloch were present at Uzair's residence. Therefore, the police besieged Singolane and its surrounding areas to arrest them.
However, unknown armed men took to streets and opened indiscriminate gunshots and suspended all commercial and social activities in the area, he added. Keeping the said situation in view, the law enforcers were directed to withdraw from their positions to avoid any human losses, he maintained.
