The clearance of inward and outward cargo is facing long delay due to separate procedures for both clearance systems. According to Karachi Customs Agents Association, different clearance system procedures and, in addition, several systems in each individual Collectorates are not only causing delays but also increasing the cost of doing business to trade and industry.
It said despite the orders of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman, the shifting of Port Qasim assessment Hall was still pending while the infrastructure at 12th floor of Custom House Karachi had already been completed. In this context the Chief Collector (South) is requested for early implementation of orders given by the FBR Chairman, as due to delays trade and service providers have to face for 100 kilometres distance for tiny issues.
Regarding Customer Service Centre (CFC) started in group I, II and III, it added the purpose was to reduce the dwell time of clearance and reduce the cost, but both objectives were not achieved. On the other hand, the clearance time had been increased.-PR
