Provincial Education Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said that education is top priority of the government and new initiatives have been taken in the field. He expressed these views at the 56th convocation of Government Post Graduate Islamia College for women, Lahore, here on Tuesday.
The minister said that the Punjab government would set up women universities in Bahawalpur, Multan, Sialkot and Faisalabad to promote higher education among women. The Punjab government also distributed Rs one billion stipend among the girl students belonging to remote and deprived areas to encourage female education.
Principal Dr Farzana Shaheen also addressed the convocation. Director Education Naseem Anjum Rana, Vice Principal Dr Khalida and staff members were present. The minister distributed medals and certificates among the students. He said that the Punjab government had provided Rs 10 billion to promote school education in the marginalized strata and 1.5 million deserving students.
He said that the government has launched education survey in 19 districts to expand education vouchers scheme in new districts especially in less developed areas. He maintained that all these facilities were equally provided to male and female students as well as the general public.
