Provincial Minister for Local Governments Agha Siraj Durani on Wednesday said that Sindh government was unable to hold local governments' elections in near future due to various reasons. This he stated while addressing a press conference at Pakistan People's Party (PPP) media cell.
He said that unavailability of voter lists, law and order situation in Karachi and other parts of Sindh and post-flood crisis were the reasons for not holding the elections. He said that the PPP would submit a reply in the Supreme Court on April 30.
"Floods hit the Sindh province badly and the government machinery remained busy in rescue and relief operation for a long time. Now the government is focusing on rehabilitation of the flood survivors," he said.
He said that the coalition partners of the government including Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and others have restarted work to prepare draft of local governments' laws.
Durani further said that future of local bodies system would be decided in consultation with all the allies. He said Sindh Chief Minister during a meeting on Wednesday constituted a seven-member committee that would present its recommendation over the issue within one week.
To a question about Mohajir province, he said that those wanted to break Sindh did not know about the history of Sindh. He vowed to fight against these anti-Sindh people.
He also criticised the authorities of Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) for carrying out load shedding at KWSB water pumping stations.
