Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed resigned on Wednesday from his Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Senate seat.

According to local media reports, Mushahid had tendered his resignation on February 5, which was accepted by Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani today.

On February 6, Mushahid had parted ways with his party PML-Q and joined Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N). During his meeting with deposed Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Jati Umra, Mushahid had accepted Sharif's invitation and had announced his decision of joining PML-N.

The former senator has vowed to work with Sharif for the strengthening of democracy in the country.

Mushahid, who heads the Senate Standing Committee on Defence, is considered an expert in the fields of defence and foreign affairs, as well as a strong advocate on Pak-China relations.
