'Adriatic Voyages', a venture by students of BBA- 4B, took an initiative for the welfare of the society by organising a 'Cruise for a Cause'. On 25th march 2012, 'THE CALYPSO' embarked on the voyage from the Marina Club. The objective behind the cruise, which was organised as a final term project for the business ethics course, was to create value by helping the poor and saving the planet, while simultaneously carrying out business as usual.
'Getting knowledge is simply not enough; practical exposure is a must for effective learning. Students represent our future generation, they must be street smart to initiate a change.' says SZABIST faculty member Hina Shamsi Nauman. As a learning outcome from the course, a certain percentage of the total earnings from the cruise were allocated for a CSR initiative which took place on April 17, 2012 in collaboration with a renowned NGO- Gulbahao. Gulbahao, a pioneer in cost effective and efficient waste disposal management follows the motto 'garbage is gold'. They recycle discarded material and manufacture them into houses, known as 'chandi ghar' which can be easily dismantled, for the flood victims of Pakistan.
'It was a healthy experience that widened our horizons and helped us see some innovative future prospects in Pakistan,' commented class media spokesperson, Ramsha Firdous. Students of BBA 4B along with their course instructor, Hina Shamsi Nauman gave funds for one such house to be made in an environment friendly manner and be sent to interior areas for the welfare of the people.-PR
